Does IWC Make Quartz Watches? Let’s find out

IWC was started in 1868 by a man named Alfred. In the late 70s and early 80, they created a line of quartz watches that were accurate timekeeping devices. They are known for their accuracy, but IWC does not currently make any such line of watches. Let’s find out in this post.

Does IWC make quartz watches?

IWC does not currently make any quartz watches. The company has always focused on mechanical movements, which is reflected in its current collection.

IWC has done some interesting experiments with quartz in the past but ultimately decided that the technology wasn’t a good fit for its brand. That said, IWC does make a line of entry-level watches with basic quartz movements (mecaquartz movement). These watches are designed to be more affordable than the company’s mechanical models and offer a simpler way to keep time.

Mecaquartz movement

Mecaquartz movement made by JLC (Jaeger-LeCoultre). It can be found in many JLC, and IWC watches. The famous movement is no longer made, but it is in some beautiful IWC watches like the Da Vinci SL Chronograph. “Caliber 631” is what JLC and IWC call it. Other calibers with more features are based on that movement (alarm, Moonphase, etc.).

Mecaquartz chronographs have movements that are made up of different parts. These movements have an electronic time-keeping engine controlled by quartz and a mechanical chronograph module. Mecaquartz chronographs have the accuracy and stability of quartz, handle a mechanical chronograph, and are small. The biggest problem with these movements is that they need a battery to work, but it is still considered quartz.
